Law Schools on Long Island

Out of the several colleges and universities in Long Island, New York-there is one main school in particular where you can be sure that they specialize in law. It is known as Touro Law School. It is a great school and has plenty to offer. When making choices however it is good to research what you're getting yourself into. Below are some of the choices you can benefit from as a student:

Touro Law School has been ranked amongst the top schools in recent surveys of student satisfaction, faculty teaching, and alumni participation. Touro Law School is small enough so that each student gets individual attention, but large enough to offer areas of specialization, from a wide selection of elective courses and clinical programs. Touro is mature enough to supply a solid traditional legal education, but young enough to react to emerging trends and to develop new programs that prepare students for modern law practice.

From its broad academic offerings and diverse professional opportunities to the facilities of a suburban location, complete with on-campus housing, easy access to public transportation, and plenty of free parking, Touro is truly is more than one would expect.

Law school is hard-no matter where you attend. Your professors will challenge you to work harder and smarter than you ever have before, to help you rise to your full potential. You will change how you reason, write, and speak. You will learn new and unique ways of analyzing and solving problems. But at Touro, all of this is accomplished without the overwhelming stress and anxiety that is common in many law schools.

You are not on your own at Touro Law School. Touro faculty members have day and evening office hours and observe an open door policy, meaning you can receive help, no matter the time. Every entering student is assigned a faculty advisor, matched by common background or interest area, for discussions on any aspect of the law school experience: study strategy, course selection, career goals, personal problems, whatever seems to be on your mind at the time. Peer support is also available: outstanding upper-level student's work as Teaching Assistants attending first-year basic courses and presenting weekly sessions centering on the application of material covered in class.

The Touro community-and the larger community of Long Island, New York-offer students a truly personalized setting for learning and living. Touro's Huntington campus is in the center of one of the most amazing and fundamental regions of the country, one that offers unmatched richness in resources, activities, and professional opportunities.

After completing their first-year required courses, students can begin selecting from a detailed menu of offerings designed to equip them with the skills necessary to excel in practice.

Clinics: Touro offers five in-house clinics, where clients bring real cases to on-campus offices: Civil Rights Litigation, Elder Law, Family Law, International Human Rights Immigration Litigation, and Not-For-Profit Corporation Law, with the last two set up to accommodate the scheduling needs of all students, working and non, daytime or evening. There are four different field placement clinics, in which students work off-campus: Business, Law & Technology Clinic (internet and high-tech companies, corporate law departments, and law firms), Civil Practice (law firms, corporations, and private and public agencies), Criminal Law (District Attorneys' and Legal Aid/Public Defenders' offices), and Judicial Clerkship (state and federal judges' chambers).

Practice Modules: Students taking certain basic courses (Business Organizations, Family Law, and Trusts & Estates) can take part in contemporary Practice Modules, working on simulated cases, using the rules they have learned in the classroom to solve practical problems.

Rotations: In this ground-breaking program based on the medical-school model, students work intensively in specialized practice groups, beside lawyers from the U.S. Attorney's Office or from Nassau/Suffolk Law Services (a regional legal services agency), supported by a weekly seminar taught by a full-time faculty member.

Externships: The Law Center provides a boundless selection of externship placements in private law firms, corporate law departments, government agencies, the courts, and public interest organizations.

Public Service Projects: Students could earn academic credit by performing legal work on-campus in Touro's Domestic Violence, Housing Rights, and Social Justice Projects.
