    Touro College

About the College

Founded in 1970 by Dr. Bernard Lander, Touro College is an independent school of higher learning that is under Jewish sponsorship. Dr. Bernard Lander established the school as a way to “strengthen Jewish life and perpetuate the Judaic tradition on the college campus” as well as to contribute to building a better society. Using this as a mission statement for the college, the doors opened in 1971 with only 35 men.

Throughout the next decade Touro College continued to expand their programs allowing women to enroll in 1974. They added many programs in the fields of Health Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Touro Law School.
