About the College

Five Town College was established in 1974 in Merrick Long Island by Stanley G. Cohen. It was originally planned as a business college offering educational instruction in the business realm. The college remained at the smaller much simpler Merrick campus until 1982 when the growing student population left classrooms busting at their seams. The college then moved to Seaford New York. It was here that the college offered the first Master of Music Degree. They even built a recording studio and expanded the courses offered in the music program.

Five Towns College is located on 35 acres of very peaceful, wooded countryside of Long Island's North Shore. As the college continued to grow, so did the facilities. They offer state of the art computer labs, music rooms, and a huge musical library. The music library is like no other. You can find just about anything that you need on the subject of Jazz and American Music. It is a haven for music lovers across the globe.

Things quickly changed with the offering of a music program. Music began to take over and what started as a music business program expanded into a nationally recognized program. The college is the first one in New York State to establish and offer programs in business music and jazz/commercial music. Their reputation for music programs took off and attracted many well known musicians who became teachers at the college.

With the ever popular and growing Music programs, it was soon apparent that the Seaford location was not big enough either. The decision was made for the Five Town College to move once again. In 1992, the College packed their bags and moved to Dix Hills, New York. In this current site, the college continued to expand adding resident halls and state of the art recording studios and sound stages for film and television.

Since its inception as a higher learning facility, Five Towns College has strived to offer excellent programs and degrees for its students. They have a national reputation for their music and performing arts programs. They also are one of the few institutions across the U.S. to offer a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

The college also is the home to the Dix Hills Center for the Performing Arts. Here, they offer students the opportunity to showcase their talents and allow the community to enjoy a large variety of shows and concerts. There is also The John Lennon Center for Music & Technology. It is here that you will find excellent muti-media studios with only the most sophisticated state of the art equipment. Students in the fields of music, television and film will be able to have an exceptional educational experience in this one of a kind facility.

The college boasts 4 state of the art residence halls, excellent staff and many student activities. You can join one of the many musical or performing arts inclined clubs or take part in the intramurals programs. If you are just looking for some time to chill out from student activities then you can head on over to the Student Center where you can pass time shooting pool, playing games, or hang out with friends at one of the many student sponsored events at the center. Regardless of what you like to do, there you are bound to find something on campus that will interest you.

If music, performing arts and business are in your blood and you are looking for an institution of higher learning that will take you seriously, then Five Towns College is the place for you.
