About the College

Are you looking for a college that offers options to study in the office, close to home or even abroad? Are you looking to further your career without spending a fortune? If you answered yes to these questions then Empire State College is the choice for you.

Empire State College, State university of New York (SUNY) was founded in 1971 as a means to offer working adults the opportunity to pursue a degree to further their career options. As one of the first nontraditional public colleges to receive regional accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, they have an excellent reputation for being a leader in adult education on Long Island. In fact, they are well known throughout the state of New York with 35 locations and many international programs across the globe.

Empire State College offers three centers in Long Island that can serve all your educational needs. The College headquarters are centrally located in Old Westbury on over 600 acres of wooded campus. It is a quiet serene learning environment that is located just 20 miles from New York City. While Empire State College’s student body is made up entirely of commuters, the Old Westbury campus has an extremely active student body. There are more than 50 organizations for students to choose from. You can be part of a fraternity or sorority as well as choose from a variety of other activities and organizations that mesh with your lifestyle. Being centrally located on Long Island, this college allows for quick access to down town New York City as well as a quick hop over to the beach for some more quiet reflection. It is definitely a unique and beautiful campus to enjoy.

The second site on Long Island is located in Hauppauge. Hauppauge New York is home to one of the largest industrial parks on Long Island. This makes it the ideal place for working people to be able to continue their education without having to travel long distances. With state of the art facilities available for all students to use, it is a very convenient extension of Empire State College. This location serves students who live in the western and central Suffolk county region.

The final site located on Long Island is the Riverhead Location. This branch of Empire State College is located on Main Street in Riverhead. This extension of the college opened in 1998. They are only open in the afternoon and evenings during the later part of the week. However, this seems to work well for the students that come from the Suffolk county area to continue their education. The location makes the student body at this campus one of the most diverse an exciting groups of all the Empire State College campuses.

Empire State College offers some of the lowest tuition rates in the North East region. You can get a highly sought after degree from State University of New York for hundreds less than other institutions in the area. You can shape and mold your degree anyway that fits your needs. They even offer the opportunity to apply for credit for your work experience (such as a real estate license, other professional licenses or military training) and college level learning (certifications that you received or other college level training that you received on the job).
