Originally founded in 1976 as a professional holistic health clinic, it was not until 1981 that the college was started. It was given the name New Center for Holistic Health Education and Research. This "center" fulfilled the need to educate many patients on the holistic techniques that healed their ailments. In the same year as its inception, with growing interest in Eastern healing and Western medicine, the Massage Therapy program was developed and approved by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. Not only was this the first degree program for the college, but for the State of New York as well.
Over the years, with continued interest in the art of Eastern healing and Western medicine, many other holistic programs were developed. In 1992, the college added a degree program in Acupuncture and an Oriental Medicine program. When these programs achieved their degree status with their first graduating class in 1998, the college changed its name to the New York College for Holistic Health, Education and Research. Then in 2002 the name was changed again and this time to the New York College of Health Professions.
Today, with the title as one of the largest schools of holistic medicine in the country, the New York College of Health Professions is a one of the kind educational experience. Students that attend this college get the best of all worlds in holistic medicine. It is here that students are able to apply what they learn in their field of study to the real world.
